"Staff did not perceive any odors"...
I received another letter from Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR)following the completion of their on line STINK report form, http://www.dnr.mo.gov/concern.htm . Their response letter was dated 4 weeks after I submitted the report. I'm sure that you've seen one yourself, it goes like this, "Your concern regarding odors in the Carthage area has been received and investigated by staff of the Department of Natural Resources Regional Office. Staff did not perceive any odors in the area that were a violation during the investigation". It goes on to say, "Your cooperation, assistance and patience with our staff will be most greatly appreciated. We will continue to work within the confines of the law to provide the greatest service that we can achieve with our available staff".
I understand that a month later, the MDNR might not "perceive' any odors in the area. The comments regarding 'cooperation, assistance and patience' are a little confusing, since I took the initiative to fill out their form, and then waited a month before hearing anything. Would I expect anything else?

If you think it stinks now how long have you been in this area you should of been here back in the 70's or 60's go back and talk to some of the older people around here ask where the old dump was at ask how long trailers set in the lot at the turkey plant. ask you mayor how many times he has been inside some of the places he complane about or about why he don't want some people around would it have some thing to do with they raise the pay level in the area what company does he back i have heard stories about smell from all them. Have you been east of the suige plant on a warm day go to Arbys in the summer when the wind is blowing see if you still want to eat then. Think about it seem to me every body wants to blame one place. Ask what was said before you had that place to blame.
It's not about blame, its about fixing the smell. Who are these people defending RES anyway, judging from the last comment I don't think it's the owners. So what if it stank 30 or 40 years ago, what has anyone done to prevent it in the present and future. Should we be grateful for the quality of smell now? It's the mentality of people who say not to place blame that has kept this town stinking.
Unfortantly we have to find other sources for fuel, RES is on the cutting edge when it comes to alternative fuels. So everyone needs to realize there is a small price to pay now but the dividends are going to be tremendous. You dont hear of the Middle Eastern people complaining of the ruined skyline they have developed from all there oil wells and massive holding tanks. They are enjoying all the benifits that come along with it.
